We agree that a big, green lawn is a luxury. However, every lawn eliminates a small portion of the local ecosystem. A lawn is considered a “monoculture”, or a microenvironment dominated by a single organism.
Monocultures are effectively deserts for local plants, insects, and animals. With the addition of fertilizer and pesticides, they may be actively toxic.
